English Teacher in Bogor
For Ms.Putri, an English teacher in Bogor the most important thing in teaching English to her students is to fully comprehend strengths and weaknesses each of her students and to encourage active learning activities. Here’s our complete interview with her:
ET: Why did you choose to teach English?
Ms. Putri: Because I have always wanted to impact lives and improve the quality of education; I think teaching English enabled me to pursue those goals.
ET: How long have you been teaching English?
Ms. Putri: I have been teaching English for approximately 10 years.
ET: What do you find as the most challenging thing in teaching English and how did you overcome it?
Ms.Putri: The challenge that I face frequently is lack of time because very few adult learners have tons of free time on their hands. Most have full time jobs and careers, and it’s hard for some of them to find the time to attend our meetings. I tried to overcome this issue with giving my students several but shorter tasks and exercises to do. For instance, instead of giving them something that might take them from 20 to 40 minutes, I give them a 5 or 10 minute exercise and I keep the tasks short and focused.
.ET: What do you like the most in teaching English?
Ms. Putri: What I like most in teaching English is the challenge to deal with different personalities of students. I’m so glad when I succeeded to find the most suitable teaching approach for each of them.
ET: As we know, speaking is the biggest issue for most of English learners in Indonesia. As an English teacher, what practical measures that you take to overcome this issue?
Ms. Putri: I often give them fun games that encourage both active listening and speaking such as the whisper game, musical chairs and group story. Those activities are effective to improve listening and their speaking skills.
One of the keys to master English successfully is learning with professional, student-oriented and dedicated English teacher like Ms. Putri.
