ET : How long have you been teaching English Online for?
Kiky : I started teaching English online when I joined English Today Online over 3 years ago.
ET : Is it true that you were the Director of Studies at English First ? What made you interested to join English Today Online?
Kiky : Yes, I worked at English First as the Director of Studies. However I decided to join English Today Online because we have students from all over Indonesia studying together online and I feel excited by this.
ET : What do you like the most about Teaching English?
Kiky : The thing that I like the most about teaching English is when I see my students grow in confidence and find better opportunities in life because of their English skills.
ET : During your career as an English Teacher, what have you found to be the biggest challenge?
Kiky :In my opinion, the biggest challenge is creating a strong self-belief in our students. I believe that with confidence everything becomes possible. This is the reason I like to invite past students, who have become a success in life, to be guest motivators in my online Zoom classes. This encourages our students to stay focused on theirs targets. The name of our motivation program is ” You were Born for a Reason, don’t let a lack of English stand in your way”.
ET : What do you do to stimulate students creativity while they’re having an English class?
Kiky : I give our students various activities such as group discussions, interactive games & debates. These activities enable the students to improve their creativity while finding creative solutions to various problems.
ET : As we know, speaking is the biggest issue for the Indonesian English learners, what do you do to enhance your students confidence and to encourage them to start speaking in English?
Kiky : I have a rule in my class. The rule is students who have passed low elementary level are not allowed to speak Bahasa in the class. So, this pushes them to get used to speaking in English.
ET : Why did you choose teaching English as your career?
Kiky : Actually, this was based on my own personal experience. When I was 12 years old, I used to watch programs on television. However, the subtitles appeared so fast that I had difficulty to fully understand them. Since then, I decided to learn English. Then, I thought it will be great if I can teach others to understand English as well.
